I'm pretty much in a tough time right now. Just getting back from 6 months out of work from a motorcycle injury and now loosing my home. Right when I was just starting to regain a little happiness , got word that my dad needed abcess removal in his chest. Don't want to bum you guys, with my problems. I would be nice to paddle out on my own stick and surf, forget about my worries. Well thanks and hang loose.

I don't have a story like that but I am a solid mid level surfer in High School right now. I surf everyday and am trying to break through to the next level. He a brother out, please. New gear can help my cause greatly. When I go pro I will make sure that the world knows it was because of your generosity!!!

Well I live at least an hour from the beach and alot of my money is being spent on gas. I have 2 brothers who play travel hockey and that eats alot of money. I too used to play but have stopped for the most part because I have been trying to earn myself a new board. My board now is a used board but still in good shape there was 1 hole that I got fixed and there was just some pressure dings a new board would just help me out and I'd be so stoked if I got it.

Hey, I'm 14 and live in Texas, I've been surfing for about a year, and from the way things are, I can't really afford new stuff that I need. (Not to sound needy) I only have one board, a 6'3 Sharp Eye that was used when I bought it. It has a few dings, and a patch over the bottom. New stuff would help me enormously in persuing surfing as a career.

Well I am in Medical school, so for the last few years my only link to the sport I love is through Surfing magazine, wavewatch and my twin brother calling me and telling me how epic Uppers was. As for the poor me route I am already close to $200,000 in debt. But not to worry my interesting rate is only at a generous 8.5%. Even with the loans I need foodstamps to feed my wife aka "Sharky" and son Crue. So basically I just barely have a pot to pee in. But it will be worth it in the end, because I'll be able to help you out if you get hurt or sick while on a surf trip. Did I mention that the compensation for my sacrifice isn't quite up to par these days. The pay cuts and insurance companies are killing the industry and making life difficult for physicians. So a gift in return for my sacrifice would be sincerely appreciated. If our paths cross in the future and I need to take care of you, I may turn a blind eye to charging you for my services like I do for the illegals. Thanks!!!

I'm landlocked in Pittsburgh, PA, so it's ultra hard to catch a good surf. I watch the wavewatch and the satellite, and chat with my friends who live on the East Coast, and it's so hard to get to the beach to get a good set. On top of that, my August board got snapped and I'm too borke to foot the bill to buy a new one. =( Please, help a sister out.

I am a broke photographer that shots surfers all the time for practically nothing and sometimes for free! helping them make it to the next level and getting their name out there is awesome and I love to help others out, but since I am so generous I can't afford a new board, I wouldn't need it but mine was stolen out if the back of my truck while shooting. I am a good person and help everyone out, so why is karma turning its back on me? Give me some faith back!!

I just came back from an 8 month deployment (military life...) i surfed in dubai, aussi, and in hawaii on my way back and my board and gear is thrashed. even if i dont win this gear, (althought i would love to, i never win these things), i still am writing a story that i would like you guys to publish that follows the life of a Navy Sailor during a deployment trying to fit in the only thing he knows he can trust and depend on. and when everyone betrays him he still has the board he has had for years, broken and tattered, it still rides until waterlogged when he has to get out and let it dry so he can go out again. not to mention passing by some of the best surf spots in the world knowing he isnt stopping... not asking for much but if i cant win this it would be cool if you guys could publish my story. thanks brudda -phillip

I have been riding any board I can get my hands on... My friends are over lending me their fish,thruster,longboard...I'll barrow anything that will float!!! Plus I can't pick up on any girls cause my shorts used to be pants, now they're all shredded and I look like a hippy coming home from Woodstock! I need this to save me... I have nothing more to look forward to.

I grew up surfing NJ until I moved to RI. Right about that time I was unlucky enough to get bit by the N.E. most favorite parasite the lyme tick. To make a long story short I havent been able to surf for 3 1/2 yrs. I just started to be able to surf small days now without having to get hooked back up to a machine. I don't want a pitty party it would just be nice to surf a board that was actually newer than 15yrs old!!! You guys Rock!!

I'm a family man, so I send most my time with my kids, 3 boys and 1 girl. We're a working class family and not rich, living in California is pretty expensive. So we have to choose between things we need than things we want. Surfboards are so expensive these days, its a luxury item. My last board I bought was 8 yrs ago, it barely floats, but we still use it at the beach and having fun together. The beach is my church, its a place where I can forget my problems and be myself. I would love to have a new board, because it would make me feel like a young kid again. That feeling of freedom from the hardships of life. Thank you Split!

Watsup surfing mag, Everyone here seems to have really good stories and everything to convince you to hook em up. I actually started to surf 2 months ago for the first time. I always was into sports like skateboard, longboard, skiing etc... but never had a chance to surf as i always wished (once in australia but i was like 7 and not to developped to paddle those waves). So all i want to say is since i lived that first experience of getting up on that rental board, i'm constantly preoccupied by surfing. Putting my economies in that little box so i can go down to the states (i live in canada)and catch some waves. Getting this gear would help me so much to get this feeling of dopamine bubbling in my head more often as i could save money easier. Thanks for reading, your mag is what keeps me alive as i wait for weekend to paddle out. Cheers

There was a surfer who is 14 years old who had an incounter with a Doryboat and had his arm severed, but was reatached about two weeks ago. Today he went home in good spirits. His arm is working quicker than they expected, he is one lucky kid. He is also a snowboarder as well.

It is really hard to come by any new gear at a reasonable cost, so i've been riding with old gear for some time know! Next spring i am going to California to surf with a friend, and it would be really nice to have a new wet suit when i go! Thanks for the chance to win! Hang Loose!

Why me you ask? Well I live in MN and have never surfed, but I having been studying up on it and really want to start surfing on the great inland ocean, Lake Superior. Right now I'd look pretty silly trying to surf out there since all I have is a wetsuit. So see I need this free stuff so I don't look like a fool trying to catch waves on the Great Lakes with no board.

I can honestly say I have never tried surfing, I buy the magazines, watch the videos and the competitions, its a big inspiration for me. But living in Vancouver BC not many waves there, luckily Vancouver Island has some good waves on the Pacific Ocean side about 3 hours away. I know everyone has their reasons for wanting to win this, but just be grateful that you are able to even surf, what sucks the most is living in a place that doesn't have the waves, at least close by. But Ill get there someday! peace out n good Luck!

Hate to play the 'how much can I bum you out' game and make someone feel sorry for me to give me free stuff. Anyway, I broke my leg and completely tore all my ligaments in my ankle on the 4th of july. Cant afford health insurance with a full time collage and part-time waiter job. No job now with my 4 month recovery time. This means 2 of my 3 surfboard quiver is up for sale to help pay for the surgery I got. My life revolves around surfing for certain, been doing it for 12 years. It keeps me grounded and positive. Of course, its a downer not being able to surf, but looking forward to it someday is what keeps my head up, and watching guys @ my fave break gets my good vibes going and keeps me stoked. Cheers

I started surfing a couple months ago and i live an hour and a half from the beach so most of my money goes to gas. I don't even have a board and i am trying very hard to get money for one because my parents don't have the money to buy me one right now because they are spending it all on my other siblings. I have been renting a board everytime i go to the beach and i would just like to have my own. I just cant seem to find work around here to get the money! My family isnt very wealthy and I just want to surf on my own board and it would be the best thing that happened if i won. So please, pick me!

I am totally in need of a board. My friend started teaching me on his board but i didn't have enough money to buy me some boardshorts or rashguards that i went shirtless with some cheap 5 dollar shorts that i bought at the swapmeet. I totally loved it even though my chest was burning like crazy from the wax. The only person in my family that works is my dad and he only makes enough money to pay for all the bills. If he has any extra money its only for like new clothes that we so need. So if you guys could pick me for this board, it would totally be awesome because i really cannot afford a surfboard or any other supplies...I really need to win this so i can save money for all the trips to the beach because i live like 2 hours away from the beach. So please pick me, i really need it.

I've only longboarded but have been dying to learn to shortboard. Unfortunately I can't afford a new board to get me started. Also, I'm unable to get to the beach very often. If I had a shortboard, I'd be able to take it on public transportation and be able to get out there instead of being stuckk at home! (Giving me the board = public transit = cleaner earth and happier ocean...)

hey guys. love the mag, it gets sicker and sicker every issue. i really need this board. i'm just finishing up my criminology degree and i'm heading to nica in spring 09 to visit all my relatives. i had a nice 2 board quiver, but both got jacked on my last trip so i'm down to zero. i havent been able to surf for 2 months now cuz i dont have a board. i cant buy another 1 cuz i have to pay for my nica trip and pay off my college debt to my parents by the time i graduate. life blows, but a new stick and being able to get back in the water will surely set things right.

So I went surfing over in California this summer. The waves down here in the Gulf aren't that great during the summer. In other words it's a fricken lake. And I brought my new 6'3 HIC fish and was having so much fun with until made probally one of the worst decision I have done in my life. My friend introduced me into some kids from Belgium or somewhere around there. And one of the kids from Belgium asked if he could borrow my board. ( he said he knew how to surf- ya shouldn't of believed that). He goes out on my new board and I go up to go borrow one of my friends boards. I come back and the kid had been run over not once, not twice, but yes three times. He had completely torn my board to pieces. He shows me my board and then comes to tell me that he doesn't have any money to pay me back. So I come back home with no board, no money to buy a new one, and waves that I can't ride. So this new stick would be amazing to win.

Hey, im from Hawai'i and Im not one of the richest kids if you know what I mean. Ive never had a brand new board and just watch other kids call me off & cut me off of perfect waves because my crap cant get on it fast enough. I just want a board that will allow me to do the "tricks" I KNOW I can do! -Im currently 15 and have been wanting to go into contests for a while now.... but I know Im not gunna win with just a couple snaps and floaters. PLEASE help me achive my dream of becoming a sponsored surfer! =) Thanks, Spencer

I live in a place where the only thing people surf is tractors. So, in order to even remotely get to a place that has waves of any type, I either have to: A: Drive for 5 hrs B: Fly somewhere. C: Use my friend's jetski to tow in surf behind tanker ships that come up the bay. Option C sounds like a hell of a lot of fun, except I'd probably get shot by the Coast Guard thinking I'm a terrorist trying to hijack the ship. So I'm left with A or B, which is cool except I end up paying a s**tload of money on gas (I drive a Jeep, not a Prius), which is bascially all the money I make working part time(I go to school). So, once I get to wherever the surf is, I'm left sleeping in my truck with just enough money to hit the dollar menu at McDonald's and buy a couple bars of wax. It'd be nice to have some new gear, please? Have a good one.

I'm from Puerto Rico. I don't have that much money to spare, so with school starting, having to drive at least an hour to get to a good beach I don't have much more. Right now I'm using a board that cost me $80, so you can imagine the shape it's in. It's old and yellow(used to be white). The board that I'm using is a Pelicano (local), good, but since it's so old it's very fragile, every time I use it it has a new ding. I can get them repaired but not polished. Even the leash I use they don't make them any more. It would mean the word to me to have something worth taking a second look.

I would love to win some of this stuff, especially the board. I would donate it to the twin groms that live across the street from me,parents permiting.

I have ginger hair and am very uncool, if i can look cool when i walk down to the beach it will help me look less uncool. I surf well & would give the gear a good home but the added advantage of knowing that you have helped a pale ginga would also help you into heaven too i reckon, ha!

I am disabled and I surf at least once or twice a week. I love being in the water but I don't have alot of money for new gear and this would be great!

ive been homeless most of my life and when i was young i was taught by the wind n sea surf club at the kids day at the beach which has been going on for 22 yrs. i was the homless kid at st. vincent de paul and now i give back by teaching these kids just like i was taught ive been donating my boards to them as well as i am starting a corporation to teach them how to surf year round like a big brother program where if they complete it they get to keep their surfboard and wetsuit. i was the only kid to be taught by them to ever return and teach as well i feel that the one day a year is not fair to them because u give them surfing but u take it right back cause u know they cant get to the beach or have a surfboard or any other means to persue it. now i want to give them that gift but make a lasting impact to actually change their lives. hopefully i can eventually come and meet ur ceo and run this by him to help get some support itll be huge tks for your time AJO

Hey its been 6 years since i started surfing. I spend the summer and a lot of time during the school year down in Ocean city New Jersey. My heritage boards hurting and been broken 4 or 5 times and my wetsuit recently ripped. Ive still been going out in it but it just has a giant hole on the stomach where another boarders fin caught me. I'm not trying to create a sob story or anything i just think I'd be great selection for this prize because i surf almost everyday and would definitely put it to good use.

Quit my job and started up nursing school. I can always use new gear but from the looks of it there might be people more deserving (like the ginger)! The only thing I have to complain about is folly beach breaking pretty fickle and full of rips. It could be worse though.... I could be landlocked!

I'm 15 years old and have been shredding on Long Beach Island, New Jersey pretty much all my life. My older brother (19) who taught himself how to surf when he was nine gave me his board when he outgrew it, even though he didn't have a board to ride. Eventually he saved up enough for another board, but last summer someone broke into our beach house and stole it. (they didnt steal mine cuz it was at my friends house) Now my brother has nothing to ride and it will take him a long time to save up for another one. If you guys could hook him up with a board and maybe some accessories, I would greatly appreciate it. I cant wait to shred with him like we used to when we both had boards.

I can't beat some of these sob stories...but I definitely think some of these posts are just that..."sob stories". Come on Surfing Mag, research these chimers! I bet half these people are spoiled groms or kooks who don't even surf. I have a hard time believing everyone who's ever had a super hard and horrible life somehow made it on a computer to enter your contest and work you for gear. SO, that being said, here's my HONEST reason you should hook me up. I'm currently in 24 units at school (send me an email and I'll link you to my schedule! Research, Surfer mag, research!) Because I'm taking such an intense load (that's what she said) I can only work 2 shifts a week (I'll give you the # of my manager). This means I'm super broke. I even sold some old boards on Craigslist in an attempt to raise money for some new gear. Unfortunatly, the money ended up going towards gas to get to school. There's no new gear anywhere in my future unless you help m

I dont't really have a sad story to tell, I'm just a broke ass student here at University of Puerto in Aguadilla. I also work on a dune restoration project in Isabela, making what most make in PR, about 5.75 and hour haha. All that goes to gas for surfing and I walk around dressed in hand-me-downs. Seeing mikala is one of my fav surfers it would be chill to get a hook up from his sponsers, and that new t&c for the winter season here.. gas chambers is heavy on your quiver...much love- james ps. that security answer is a killer, or my eyesight is just shot

I was reborn almost 2 years ago.. Moved from the mountains of BC, Canada to Mexico. I still suck at surfing, but have realized that the boards made here in mexico, suck more than I do.. Regardless, I am going to get better one of these days, and I do hope that doesn't take a pair of skate shoes. But I do need to walk to the beach. Thanks for the sick photos and reading material.. One day I will adventure out there and surf one of those spots. Until then.. Luego.

I just had hip replacement surgery after wondering why 2 years ago I could barely stand up on a wave. Now, I grew up in the Nard surfing killer beachbreak barrels and getting banged to the sand crabs was a daily feature if you wanted to get barreled. Well 2 years ago while out at Marmeadows I couldnt get my feet under me and my hip hurt doing it, no big deal I am getting older, well after repeated attempts to surf my hips just got worse and worse and not being able to afford health insurance I let surfing go for just being able to work was needed. Well I could take it no longer got insurance went to doctor told I needed hip replacement surgey. Now I need a new board for easier waves no barreling beachbreak or barreling reef waves for a while. It's off to Scorpion Bay or Pavones on a nice Pang T&C 8'6'' cruiser once I am able to work and save the cash for a trip to feel that warmth that mother ocean gives my soul. May you surf in peace.

I'm French girl and my English is far from being completed I'm sorry. I'm 18 years old and I surf for 5 years. It would be cool if you chose me, I could surf with a good equipment and I would represent a brand which I appreciate. Merci et au revoir ( thank you and goodbye :) )

i live about two hours from a beach on the east coast of florida and i surf every chance i get... when i cant go to the beach i just get pulled behind my boat and surf the river... i dont have a lot of financial problems, i didn't just have surgery or a recent loss or anything like that... but i do have a small, 2 board, quiver... and i would like all that stuff in the prize pack... but i don't necessarily "need" any of it, so i kind of hope some one who needs it more than me gets it.... but i couldn't help but give it a shot anyhow...

I would like to be the winner of the Mikala Jones prize package (I will keep my fingers crossed), but after being sick and gaining some 50lbs from the med's (Feeling better now - Thanks) my 9'2" Richenburg doesn't float me anymore. Winning some new gear would help me loose this weight better, because going to the wellness center I go to stinks and it costs to dang much. Thanks for reading my book, peace out.

Alrite well im not outta high school yet so I dont have too much $$$ for gear. But anythin in the water suits me (swim, boating, and especially SURF) I love surfin but live in Virginia Beach, with the waves of suckiness. This'd give me a chance to save up n go somewhere amazing like Australia or HI. No one in my family surfs cept me n my little bro, so im a pioneer of sorts. Many probably deserve this more n me, but one can hope!
