ADAM WICKWIRE WINS OAKLEY PRO JUNIOR – ROCKETS TO SECOND ON RATINGS

SAN CLEMENTE, Calif., Sept. 23, 2007 – Adam Wickwire has just scalped the 2007 Association of Surfing Professionals (ASP) Grade-2 Oakley Pro Junior in a hard-fought battle with current ratings leader Cory Arrambide (Ventura, CA), Nick Rozsa (Oxnard, CA) and Sebastian Zietz (Hanalei, HI) in rippable two-to-three foot waves at 56th Street in Newport Beach.

“I’m so stoked right now,” Wickwire said. “I came out here and intentionally didn’t enter the WQS event so I could focus on the Pro Junior event. My goal was to make the Semifinals, but to come away with the victory is a huge for me. I can’t believe it.”

The event, which is the second-to-last on the 2007 ASP North America Pro Junior Series as well as the Macy’s California Trifecta Surf Series presented by Jeep, caused a huge upset in the ratings, rocketing Wickwire from fourth to second while cementing Arrambide firmly in the leader position.

“I missed out on qualifying for the ASP World Junior Championships by one heat last year,” Wickwire said. “I definitely didn’t want to head into the final event in Santa Cruz in the same position as last year. It’s not a definite yet, but I’m so psyched now. I can’t wait for the next event.”

Arrambide, who looked dangerous in both the ASP WQS 2-Star and ASP Grade-2 Pro Junior events all week, was unable to find the waves in the final, but his fourth-place finish at the Oakley Pro Junior cements his position as the current ratings leader on the 2007 ASP North America Pro Junior Series.

The next and final stop on the 2007 ASP North America Pro Junior Series will be the ASP Grade-3 Oakley Pro Junior ASP North America Pro Junior Championships at Steamer Lane in Santa Cruz, Calif. from October 9-14, 2007. The event will play a pivotal role in determining who will qualify for the prestigious Billabong ASP World Junior Championships in January, as well as determining the Macy’s Trifecta Pro Junior Champion.
