LESS THAN TWO WEEKS UNTIL THE NIKE 6.0 PIER PRESSURE PRO JUNIOR LANDS AT HUNTINGTON BEACH

Ladies and gentlemen, boys and girls of all ages, prepare yourself for one of the biggest Pro Junior events at arguably the most iconic surf stage on the mainland US: the 2007 Nike 6.0 Pier Pressure Pro Junior. Coming to the hallowed sands of Huntington Beach Pier on July 7-9, the excitement of the two-day surf-a-thon will have you absolutely frothing.

As an Association of Surfing Professional (ASP) North America Grade 2 Pro Junior event, the Nike 6.0 Pier Pressure Pro Junior has announced a field of 80 competitors, including current ASP North America Pro Junior points leader Cory Arrambide (Ventura, CA), who will begin his run for the Pier Pressure title from the round of 32. The young goofy-footer will be clean to scalp a title at the Pier Pressure as he’s yet to win an event this season.

“Pier Pressure is one of the top contests you can participate in as a junior,” said Koa Smith. “And I’m really psyched to be one of the two surfers there receiving a wild card to compete. As one of only five Hawaiians surfing in the event, I feel lucky and excited to be there.”

Also gracing this year’s banner event will be reigning ASP North America Pro Junior Champion Eric Geiselman (New Smyrna Beach, FL) as well as junior standouts Nick Rozsa (Oxnard, CA), Adam Wickwire (Satellite Beach, FL) and Jesse Heilman (Daytona Beach, FL). To mix things up, a Hawaiian invasion led by Casey Brown (Kona, HI), Granger and Wesley Larsen (Lahaina, HI) will surely add to the already-incredible talent pool at this year’s Pier Pressure.

Wavewatch.com is forecasting a good round of swell for July 7-8th. While the South Pacific lagged for most of early June, storm activity has really increased during the final week of the month. Current forecast charts are showing two decent storms within our swell window that will be providing waves for the contest.

Look for a mix of S swell (170-180) and SW swell (200-215) peaking on both Saturday and Sunday with waves consistently in the waist-head high range, along with the potential for bigger sets as we move through favorable tides. Shape will likely be pretty wally and racy if we only have the Southern Hemi swells in the water...but since it is HB there is a chance we will have some local NW windswell moving in to break it up. Make sure to check the forecasts at www.wavewatch.com as we get closer to the contest.

As does the standout junior action destined to go down in the water, Nike 6.0 goes big all the time. There will be no exceptions this time as Nike has a few tricks up their sleeve for this one, so be sure to make your way down to the beach for the weekend, you won’t be disappointed.

If you’re still too sunburned after the 4th of July weekend, or for whatever reason you can’t make it down to the contest, tune into the live event webcast at www.nike6pierpressure.com for all the surfing action, as well as the excitement on the beach and blow-by-blow live scoring.

Pier Pressure is supported by Nike 6.0, Jack’s Surfboards, Surfer Magazine, Surfing Magazine and WaveWatch.com.
