CHAMPIONS SURVIVE STORM AT BUSINESS END OF THE OAKLEY NEWPORT BEACH PRO PRESENTED BY JEEP®
The Association of Surfing Professionals (ASP) World Qualifying Series (WQS) 2-Star event, the second of three on the 2007 Macy’s California Trifecta Surf Series presented by Jeep (an ASP North America Specialty Series), saw challengers to the ratings lead on the Macy’s Trifecta make a solid push in the stormy one-to-three foot surf at 56th Street. Kilian Garland (Santa Barbara County, CA), current number nine on the Macy’s California Trifecta Surf Series presented by Jeep, put the entire draw on notice today as he racked up the day’s high heat total of a 14.75 out of a possible 20. “I’m super stoked to have gotten through today’s heat,” Garland said. “The conditions are pretty tough out there, but it’s supposed to clean right up tomorrow and get good. I’m psyched to make it into the Semifinals and I hope I can keep going.” Austin Ware (CA), current number five on the Macy’s California Trifecta Surf Series presented by Jeep, made a huge jump with his impressive victory today, and will overtake current ratings leader Shaun Ward (Huntington Beach, CA) with a runner-up finish at the Oakley Newport Beach Pro presented by Jeep. “I’m stoked to still be in the event and to be within striking distance of the ratings lead is great,” Ware said. “I like this event because it’s a good way to stay sharp in between the big ’QS events. Hopefully I can put a good showing in here tomorrow and put myself into a good position on the ratings.” Tomorrow will see the Oakley Newport Beach Pro presented by Jeep crown its 2007 champion with Semifinal competition kicking off at 9:30 a.m. with the Finals commencing at 1:25 p.m. The event will be webcast LIVE at www.newportbeachpro.com RESULTS – Day 5 Oakley Newport Beach Pro presented by Jeep – ASP WQS 2-Star SCHEDULE – Oakley NB Pro presented by Jeep Sunday, September 23, 2007 The event is being webcast LIVE at HYPERLINK "http://www.newportbeachpro.com" www.newportbeachpro.com Forecast from official event forecaster WaveWatch - Sunday 9.23.07 |
