WAVEWATCH.COM SURF FORECAST FOR THE 2007 O’NEILL COLD WATER CLASSIC PRESENTED BY JEEP® AND OAKLEY PRO JUNIOR ASP NORTH AMERICA CHAMPIONSHIPS

Santa Cruz, Calif., Oct. 9, 2007 – Wavewatch.com, the official forecaster of the O’Neill Cold Water Classic presented by Jeep® and Oakley Pro Junior ASP North America Championships, has predicted favorable conditions for the event which runs October 9-14, 2007 at Steamer Lane in Santa Cruz, California. Steamer Lane

Coldwater Classic Surf Forecast Summary
A series of no less than 3 gales are forecast moving into the area through the contest window. First up is small very northerly swell from an inconsequential gale that passed through the Northern Gulf of Alaska Sun/Mon with tiny swell fading for the first day of the contest. A much stronger system is forecast wrapping up just off North CA Monday/Tuesday driving 35 kt fetch and 18-20 ft seas in close proximity to the coast, with much more size arriving for Wednesday into Thursday. Another weaker gale to follow directly behind on Wed/Thurs driving more 30-35 kt fetch and up to 21 ft seas well toward the Lane for mid-day Friday continuing into Saturday and Sunday. Most all this is to be generated relatively nearby providing a bit of size, which should make up for whatever it lacks in quality.

Tues (10/9): Steep north swell fading from 4 ft @ 11 secs. Surf 2.5 ft. South winds 10 kts early and increasing to 25 kts late and chopped with rain likely late.

Wed (10/10): New jumbled west swell 8.6 ft @ 11 secs. Surf 6-7 ft. Light northeast winds 5 kts early turning northwest afternoon. Rain clearing out early. Clean most of the day.

Thurs (10/11): West swell slowly fading from 7.6 ft @ 11 secs. Surf 5-6 ft. Near calm wind all day and clean.

Fri (10/12): Another west swell building to 6.3 ft @ 10 secs midday. Surf 4 ft. South wind on the increase from 7 kts early up to 15 kts mid-day. Rain possible late. Chopped conditions.

Sat (10/13): More west swell 6 ft @ 10 secs. Surf in the 3-4 ft range. Light winds and clean all day.

Sun (10/14): Northwest swell continues at 5.2 ft @ 11 secs. Surf 4 ft. Calm early with light south wind to 10 kts late.

Forecasts will be updated daily throughout the duration of the contest, more information is available on wavewatch.com.
