Clear the schedule and bring out the family because on August 19 Surfing Magazine and the City of Del Mar have joined forces to host, The Art of Surfing presented by Hurley, a festival in honor of the arts that make and shape the core of the surfing culture.

Following a progressive two years in the post-Clark Foam surf industry, the event will be showcasing the art of surfboard shaping from the best of the best. Big names from Jeff “Doc” Lausch to Rusty and Xanadu will be present at the event showing off their latest shapes and newest technologies.

Amongst other things, Rob Machado will host the event, representing the event sponsor Hurley International, while simultaneously premiering his favorite surf flicks at a surfside cinema.

Fine art and photography will also be plentiful throughout the day from artists such as Rob Machado, Flame and Wolfgang Bloch. Browse the exhibits and explore the visual beauty behind the art of wave riding.

For those seeking some aural amusement, the visual arts will be accompanied by the sound of musical talent, Years Around the Sun, who will begin following the surfboard showcase.

To celebrate 20 years of serving the surfing public of Del Mar, Rusty Del Mar Surf Shop is hosting a community surfing contest on the south side of the festival which will serve as exposure for those surfers who have mastered the art of wave riding.

Quality food services as well as up to ten surf industry vendors will accompany the event’s many exhibits in order to feed the masses of surf culture supporters that Del Mar hopes to host throughout the day.

Admittance to the all-day event will be free courtesy the sponsors and contributors that will be taking part in the outing. The event will take place in the vicinity surround 15th street in Del Mar starting at 10am and going until 9:30pm.
